What it is
The masjid layer of East Coast Muslim, published for anyone to download and reuse. It is published under the ODbL, as the OpenStreetMap license asks, and it is a gift to the community.
- Download: east-coast-muslim-masjids.zip
- Format: a zip file that holds the masjids as GeoJSON and as CSV, with the license and a read-me.
- Updated every week.
What is in it
- For each masjid, where we have them: its name, address, map location, website, public phone, prayer and Jumu'ah times, languages, women's space, parking and access.
- When a masjid updates any of these details on its masjid desk, the update goes into the file too. Nothing else from the desk does: never an email address, a janazah contact, or anything not shown on the masjid's public page.
- Every masjid carries its permanent East Coast Muslim id. An id never changes and is never reused, so you can match one week's file to the next.
- Each masjid also carries the address of its page on the atlas and, where we have one, the date we last confirmed its details.
- Only masjids published on the atlas.
What is not in it
- Reviews, photos and HCC status. They are kept apart from the masjid layer.
- Businesses and places to eat. That layer is our own work, gathered from each business's own pages. Halal tags from the open map are private leads we check; they are never published or exported.
- People's details: no accounts, no visitors, no email addresses, no janazah contacts and no names from tax filings. A post office box is never given as a masjid's location, and an address found only in the IRS file stays out until the masjid's own site, the open map or a check confirms it.
Where it comes from
- OpenStreetMap, the map anyone can edit, under the ODbL.
- The IRS exempt organization file and the Census Bureau's address service, which are US government data.
- Checks against each masjid's own website, kept with the link that proves them.
Each masjid's page on the atlas lists the sources behind its details, with dates.
