East Coast Muslim: open masjid data

The masjid layer of the East Coast Muslim atlas (https://eastcoastmuslim.com/), free for anyone to
download and reuse. It holds every masjid published on the atlas, 485 in this file, with what we
have of each: its permanent East Coast Muslim id, name, address, map location, website, public
phone, prayer and Jumu'ah times, languages, women's space, parking and access.

Built in the week of Sunday, October 25, 2026, on Sunday, October 25, 2026 (Eastern time).
It is built again every week.

FILES

masjids.geojson One GeoJSON FeatureCollection, a Point for each masjid with its fields as
                     properties.
masjids.csv The same masjids, one row each, UTF-8, with a header row.
LICENSE.txt The Open Database License 1.0.
README.txt This file.

FIELDS

Each field holds a value only where we have one; otherwise it is null in the GeoJSON and empty in
the CSV.

ecm_id The masjid's permanent East Coast Muslim id, 10 letters and digits. An id never
changes and is never reused, so you can match one week's file to the next.
name The masjid's name, as its page on the atlas shows it.
street The street address, only where it is public. Never a post office box, and never
an address found only in the IRS file until the masjid's own website, the open
map or a check confirms it. Empty otherwise.
city The town or, where we know no town, the county, as the masjid's page names it.
state The two letter postal code.
postcode The ZIP code, only with a public street address.
lat, lng The map location, in decimal degrees (WGS 84). The GeoJSON geometry is the same
                     point.
website The masjid's own website.
phone The phone number the masjid publishes, in international form (+1 and ten digits
                     for a US number).
languages The languages the masjid says it uses, as ISO 639-1 codes. In the CSV they are
                     separated by semicolons.
women_space main_hall, separate_room, balcony, or none (the masjid says it has no space for
                     women).
women_entrance shared (the main entrance) or separate (its own entrance).
parking lot, street, limited, or none (the masjid says it has no parking).
wheelchair yes (a step-free entrance), partial, or no (steps at the entrance).
access_note What the masjid says about access, in its own words.
daily_prayers Whether it holds all five daily prayers in congregation, once a check, the
masjid or our staff has said so. A masjid that holds only some is no, and its
iqamah times list only those. In the CSV: yes, no, or empty.
jumuah_held Whether it holds Jumu'ah, once a check, the masjid or our staff has said so. In
the CSV: yes, no, or empty.
time_zone The time zone of the masjid's times (an IANA name, such as America/New_York).
iqamah The times the congregation stands to pray, as the masjid gives them, for the
seven days from the day the file was built: a list of days, each with its date
and a time for fajr, dhuhr, asr, maghrib and isha, in 24 hour HH:MM local time,
or null where the masjid gives none. An empty list when the masjid has not
given us its iqamah times. The CSV carries the first day only: iqamah_date,
                     fajr_iqamah, dhuhr_iqamah, asr_iqamah, maghrib_iqamah and isha_iqamah.
jumuah_date The Friday the Jumu'ah times are for.
jumuah That Friday's Jumu'ah: for each one, the khutbah time, the prayer time and the
khutbah languages. The CSV has up to three: jumuah_1_khutbah, jumuah_1_prayer,
jumuah_1_languages, and the same for 2 and 3.
jumuah_note When the masjid has not given us its Jumu'ah times: what we noted about them
when we checked its website, word for word.
jumuah_note_checked The date of that check.
last_confirmed The date we last confirmed the masjid's details, where we have one.
url The masjid's page on the atlas, which lists the sources behind its details,
                     with dates.

In the CSV, a text value that begins with =, +, - or @ starts with an apostrophe, so a spreadsheet
never runs it as a formula. The GeoJSON gives every value as it is.

WHAT IS NOT IN IT

No accounts or visitors, no email addresses, no janazah contacts, and no names from tax filings. No
reviews, photos or HCC status. No businesses or places to eat, and no food labels. Nothing a masjid
writes on its masjid desk goes in beyond the fields above, and nothing that is not on the masjid's
public page. A post office box is never given as a masjid's location.

WHERE IT COMES FROM

OpenStreetMap, the map anyone can edit, under the ODbL (map data from OpenStreetMap,
https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright, © OpenStreetMap contributors). The IRS exempt organization
file and the Census Bureau's address service, which are US government data. Checks against each
masjid's own website, kept with the link that proves them. Masjids keep their own times and details
on their masjid desk.

CORRECTIONS

See something wrong? Use "Suggest a correction" on the masjid's page (its url field). If the mistake
is in OpenStreetMap itself, you can fix it there too.
